C is for…

As I was perusing the library looking for books to go with our letter of the week, I came across the juvenile biographies section. I decided to see what there was for the letter C, hoping to find someone that had something to do with cats.

As I was looking, I realized what a great selection of biographies there was for the letter C. I didn’t want my kids to miss them simply because they didn’t fit with our chosen C theme of cats.

So, I decided to bring them home anyways. And now I am sharing them with you, along with a printable biography worksheet that you can use with your elementary students. I have kept it basic/generic enough to be able to use with any biography.

Biographies for the Letter C

• Jacques Cartier and the Exploration of Canada by Daniel E. Harmon (j971.0113 C327Zh 2001) – This was a good fit for us because we just read a blip about him in our history lessons.
• Annie Jump Cannon, Astronomer by Carole Gerber (j520.92 qC226Zg 2011) – Quite a fascinating story of the first woman to receive a doctor of science degree from Oxford University.
• Artists Through the Ages: Paul Cezanne by Alix Wood (j759.4 C425Zw 2013) – A nice, short biography of the French artist.
• The Groundbreaking, Chance-Taking Life of George Washington Carver and Science & Invention in America by Cheryl Harness (j630.92 C331Zha 2008) – The title is almost longer than the book. This book is beautifully illustrated and covers a lot of ground.
• The Life and Work of Mary Cassatt by Ernestine Giesecke (j759.13 qC343Zg 2000) – This is an easy read about the American artist.
• Nicolaus Copernicus: The Earth is a Planet by Dennis Brindell Fradin (j520.92 qC782Zf 2003) – The illustrations in this book are simply beautiful.
• My Favorite Writer: Beverly Cleary by Susan Ring (j813.54 qC623Zr 2003) – She actually is my favorite writer and I’m enjoying introducing my kids to her books.
• Randolph Caldecott: The Man Who Could Not Stop Drawing by Leonard S. Marcus (j741.642092 fC146Zm 2013) – You would expect this to have great illustrations…you won’t be disappointed.
