In my life this week…
This is the first year I’ve canned tomatoes (for varying reasons). What a process. Each batch I do, I learn a new trick or such (like putting my cutting board across the sink so I can just wipe the juice & seeds in the sink instead of having to wipe up the mess with a washcloth 4 million times).
What’s working/not working for us…
Sometimes less is more and sometimes more is better. We have less planned out topics this year, which is working really well. I don’t constantly feel like we’re behind and the kids are liking a little more freedom. We have more accountability for the kids this year, too. Their independent work is written in a student calendar along with their daily household work. They are responsible for completing it before lunch. It’s working well most of the time. I’m only doing this with the older two, who can read well. Meg’s work is in MY student calendar. I’ll share more about these in my next homeschooling post for the “Not” Back-to-School Blog Hop.
Things I’m working on…
I’m working on fitting reading aloud into our schedule in a way that fits naturally. The kids and I started reading Colossians yesterday at lunch. I stink at routine, but I’m working on this (pretty much constantly).
