In my life this week…
This is the first year I’ve canned tomatoes (for varying reasons). What a process. Each batch I do, I learn a new trick or such (like putting my cutting board across the sink so I can just wipe the juice & seeds in the sink instead of having to wipe up the mess with a washcloth 4 million times).
What’s working/not working for us…
Sometimes less is more and sometimes more is better. We have less planned out topics this year, which is working really well. I don’t constantly feel like we’re behind and the kids are liking a little more freedom. We have more accountability for the kids this year, too. Their independent work is written in a student calendar along with their daily household work. They are responsible for completing it before lunch. It’s working well most of the time. I’m only doing this with the older two, who can read well. Meg’s work is in MY student calendar. I’ll share more about these in my next homeschooling post for the “Not” Back-to-School Blog Hop.
Things I’m working on…
I’m working on fitting reading aloud into our schedule in a way that fits naturally. The kids and I started reading Colossians yesterday at lunch. I stink at routine, but I’m working on this (pretty much constantly).
- Keeker and the Sugar Shack: Book 3 in the Sneaky Pony Series (Keeker and the Sneaky Po) by Hadley Higgenson (reading with Megan, lover of all things pony)
- Grow Your Handmade Business: How to Envision, Develop, and Sustain a Successful Creative Business by Kari Chapin
- The Year-Round Vegetable Gardener: How to Grow Your Own Food 365 Days a Year, No Matter Where You Live by Niki Jabbour
I’m praying for…
Guidance, wisdom and discernment always. Right now, I’m specifically praying for those regarding our homeschooling and Leapin’ Lilies.

“Many Spirit-filled authors have exhausted the thesaurus in order to describe God with the glory He deserves. His perfect holiness, by definition, assures us that our words can’t contain Him. Isn’t it a comfort to worship a God we cannot exaggerate?†– Francis Chan, Crazy Love
