Let me make this very clear disclaimer. I am not looking to stir debate, there are plenty of other places for that.
What I do want to talk about is being offended. There is likely not one person walking this earth that has never been offended at one point in time or another. Should this surprise us?
“Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto them through whom they come!” – Luke 17:1
See, Jesus gave us warning.
So I should not have been surprised by my reaction when I came across this graphic during the Chik-Fil-A debacle.
As someone who has given to our local clearinghouse (the umbrella for several food pantries in the area), this offended me. As someone who knows many Christians who give of their time, money and other resources to help those in need, this offended me.
I had a nice outline about what to do when offended and how the Bible instructs us to handle the situation when our brother offends us (and also instructs us to not be easily offended). However, I’m more of a keep-it-simple, do-something-instead-of-whining kind of girl. So, I’d like to provide an opportunity for you to band together and make a stand that helps the hungry.
So, I set up a campaign with Fundly. You can donate money that I will then take to the store and purchase food for our local Clearinghouse. You are not donating directly to the Clearinghouse, so your donations are not tax-deductible. If you would like a receipt for your taxes, you can donate directly to the Clearinghouse (or one in your area).
What I’m promising you with this post:
I will share an update post when we reach the goal with what your money bought (complete with photos!).
I’m also working on an announcement for Leapin’ Lilies that will explain more details about the Clearinghouse and how this is will be an on-going project for Leapin’ Lilies. You will be able to help those in need and get some pretties in the process.
Honestly, I debated about doing this. My blog is so small and I kept thinking, what if I prove them right?! So I really need your help here. If you could, please share this post with as many people as you can. I’d love to smash through this goal and have to set a new one. The current goal is $500 by November 7, 2012.
Please consider donating today!
