Bible Verses to Memorize About Joy: Selections From Psalms

Bible verses to memorize about joy from the book of Psalms. From www.vicki-arnold.com

A few weeks ago, I shared Bible verses to memorize about Joy. Joy is my One Word for 2013 and I wanted some scriptures to memorize to support that focus. I firmly believe that the Word of God is alive and able to change my heart. This is why hiding scriptures in my heart is important to me.

When I was looking for Bible verses for the last post, I realized that the book of Psalms was full of verses about joy. So they get their own post. I’m pretty fond of the book of Psalms. Somehow David’s prayers give me great comfort. Something about how he lays it all out for God, but always comes back to “Thy will be done.”

Bible Verses to Memorize About Joy From Psalms

  • “But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.” 5:11
  • “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” 16:11
  • “And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.” 27:6
  • “Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” 30:4-5
  • “Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.” 32:11
  • “And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation.” 35:9
  • “Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hat pleasure in the prosperity of his servant. And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.” 35:27-28
  • “When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.” 42:4
  • “Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou has broken may rejoice.” 51:8
  • “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.” 51:12
  • “Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands: Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.” 66:1-2
  • “O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.” 67:4
  • “O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.” 95:1-3
  • “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.” 98:4
  • “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” 100
  • “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.” 126:5
  • “Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand;” 149:5-6

When I look at this list, what stands out to me is how joy is connected to action. Sacrifices of praise, make a joyful noise, shout for joy. It’s clear…joy makes noise unto the Lord. No wonder singing worship songs is one of my favorite things to do.

Bible Verses to Memorize About Joy

Bible verses to memorize about joy. See what God's word has to say about joy. Where is your joy found?

I’ve covered Bible verses to memorize for when I don’t like myself and for overcoming procrastination. This time I am taking on my One Word. This post is a list of Bible verses to memorize about joy.

I was recently talking with a friend about keeping our mind’s focus on the joy of the Lord. She asks a great question of herself, what is the source of my joy? As Christians, our joy is to be found in the Lord Jesus Christ. Yet in this world, it is so easy to lose that and focus on just about anything else.

We lose our joy when we are consumed with worry over life situations. We lose our joy when we easily react with anger to our children. We lose our joy when we are consumed with jealousy over a spouse’s interactions with others. We lose our joy when we sin against God. This world is full of joy-killers.

Be consumed with the God. Be consumed with the Word of God. Be consumed with prayer. Be consumed with following Christ’s directives. Be consumed with working out your own salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12). Be consumed with the joy of the Lord.

Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.” This is the prayer of Psalm 51:12. He can restore the joy in your life. Seek His face and hide these verses in your heart for the times when you need to counter the joy-stealer voice in your head.

  • “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into the gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” – Psalm 100
  • “A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!” – Proverbs 15:23
  • “And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.” – Romans 5:11
  • “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” – Romans 15:13
  • “But the fruit of the Spirit s love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” – Galatians 5:22-23
  • “Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;” – Colossians 1:11
  • “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.” – James 1:2-3
  • “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” – 3 John 1:4

I encourage you to do more than simply memorize these verses. Go to them in your Bible and read the context. Pray for God to guide your understanding and show you how to apply it to your life. The Word of God is alive, it will change you from the inside out…if you let it.

Let me leave you with this section of scripture as a reminder of where our joy truly is found:

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. And in that day shall ye say, Praise the Lord, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted. Sing unto the Lord; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth. Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.” – Isaiah 12:2-6

Scriptures to Memorize for When I Don’t Like Myself {Healthy Habits Tuesday}

Scriptures to Memorize for When I Don't Like Myself from the @vicki_arnold blogI’ve talked before about needing to change your inner voice in order to make a healthy habit stick for good. I have found myself needing to reinforce this in myself, so I came up with a list of five Bible verses to memorize for to combat those times where I am not happy with where I am. Because sometimes all the goals in the world can’t make me like myself.

I make bad decisions, fall flat on my face, and sometimes just flat out ignore what I know is right. If I take the time to dwell on this, I have a full fledged pity party in no time. How’s that for transparent?

The good news is, I know that this is not the way my God sees me. He sees me through the lens of Christ, His precious, perfect Son. He values my life not because it is important for any worldly milestones, but because it was bought and paid for by my Lord, His Son, the spotless Lamb. I really should be focusing on what He has to say about me. So I went looking to see what His Word said.

The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” – Jeremiah 31:3

If He has loved me with an everlasting love, I think I can manage a few years here.

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.” – Colossians 1:12-14

He has delivered me from powers of darkness, I should live my life in continual gratitude. I’ve seen what the powers of darkness can do to a life. I am eternally grateful to Him, my thought life should reflect that. Not only has He saved me from darkness, but He has forgiven my sins. Oh mama.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” – Philippians 4:13

Yes, yes I can. Although I do try to leave out the two most important words of this verse more often than I’d like to admit.

And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” – 2 Corinthians 6:18

Daughter of the Lord Almighty? Humbling.

I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.” – 2 Samuel 22:4

While I’m thankful to be unaware of physical enemies in my life, I am fully aware of the spiritual Enemy that seeks to destroy anything that belongs to the One Most High. This is why I must call on the name of Christ, He is worthy of any and all praise my lips shall sing.

This week, I intend to meditate on these scriptures to internalize the hope, promise, and the joy that comes from serving a lord called Christ. He is worthy of my praise, and through Him, and only through Him, I am worthy.
